Floating photovoltaics are gaining momentum internationally – and SolOcean is actively contributing to this development with new solutions, strategic partnerships and a significantly expanded product portfolio. Following a successful presence at Intersolar Europe 2026 in Munich, we are now taking the next steps: 50 additional PV module models are expanding the application potential of our systems, while new Floating PV projects are being advanced in Austria and beyond.
Floating PV Is Becoming an Important Part of the Energy Transition
Solar PV capacity continues to grow rapidly worldwide. At the same time, the industry is increasingly addressing a critical question: How can additional photovoltaic capacity be deployed without placing further pressure on valuable land resources?
Floating photovoltaics – also known as Floating PV or FPV – provide a compelling answer. By installing photovoltaic modules on suitable bodies of water, existing areas can serve an additional purpose: generating renewable energy.
The International Energy Agency Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme (IEA PVPS) identifies Floating PV as a promising opportunity to expand solar generation, particularly in regions where available land is limited. By the end of 2023, approximately 7.7 GW of Floating PV capacity had already been installed worldwide.
Floating PV is also gaining traction in Austria. According to IEA PVPS, the country’s installed Floating PV capacity reached approximately 24.5 MW by the end of 2024.
For SolOcean, this development confirms both the relevance of our technology and the direction we have chosen.
Intersolar Europe 2026: Strong International Interest in SolOcean
From 23 to 25 June 2026, SolOcean presented its technologies at Intersolar Europe, part of The smarter E Europe in Munich.
Our exhibition focused on Floating PV systems for a wide range of freshwater and saltwater applications, with particular attention given to our innovative Ballast Cube System.
The strong response from project developers, prospective customers and industry partners clearly demonstrated that Floating PV is increasingly moving from a specialist technology towards a relevant solution for expanding photovoltaic generation capacity.
For SolOcean, Intersolar was therefore much more than a product showcase. It provided valuable market validation for our development strategy and created a strong foundation for new projects, partnerships and commercial opportunities.
We were also particularly pleased to welcome Andreas Roth and Martin Aichinger to our stand. Their introductions to colleagues and industry contacts opened up a number of valuable new conversations and potential opportunities for future cooperation.
The Cube System: Lightweight, Flexible and Designed for Different PV Module Formats
Our Cube System attracted particularly strong interest at Intersolar Europe.
One of its key advantages lies in its engineering concept: the system combines a lightweight structure with a water-filled ballast solution. This reduces weight during transportation and installation, while the required ballast can be added using water directly at the installation site.
A second major advantage is the system’s flexibility regarding PV module selection.
The Cube System has been designed to accommodate a wide range of photovoltaic module dimensions. This provides project developers with greater flexibility in system design, project configuration and module selection, while reducing dependency on specific module formats.
In a photovoltaic market where module technologies, dimensions and power ratings continue to evolve, this adaptability represents an important advantage for the long-term planning of Floating PV projects.

50 Additional PV Module Models Expand the SolOcean Portfolio
Alongside the continued development of our Floating PV systems, SolOcean is significantly expanding its photovoltaic module portfolio.
Ahead of Intersolar, our team travelled to China from 25 to 30 May 2026 to evaluate new suppliers and technologies and explore potential long-term partnerships.
The visit resulted in a new supplier partnership that will expand the SolOcean portfolio by 50 additional PV module models.
This broader portfolio will enable us to configure Floating PV projects even more precisely according to different technical requirements, system dimensions and applications.
For our customers, this translates into one clear benefit: greater choice and greater flexibility within an integrated Floating PV solution.
From Reservoirs to Industrial Water Bodies: Floating PV Unlocks New Solar Potential
The potential of Floating PV is particularly compelling where suitable water surfaces already exist.
Potential applications include artificial lakes, reservoirs and retention basins, industrial water bodies, irrigation ponds and other suitable bodies of water. IEA PVPS identifies protected inland water bodies such as reservoirs, irrigation ponds and former mining sites among the established application areas for Floating PV.
The fundamental advantage is clear: renewable energy generation and existing land use do not necessarily have to compete for the same space.
This dual-use approach is becoming increasingly relevant as the solar industry seeks to reconcile the continued expansion of renewable energy with competing demands for land.
For infrastructure operators, industrial companies, energy providers and owners of suitable water bodies, Floating PV therefore offers an additional pathway for unlocking previously underutilised renewable energy potential.
Next Focus: Floating PV for Ski Resorts and Alpine Infrastructure
Following Intersolar, SolOcean is already moving into the next phase of market development.
One of our current focus areas is ski resorts in Tyrol, Austria, where we are engaging with prospective customers and partners to evaluate concrete applications for Floating PV.
Existing reservoirs used for snowmaking and other operational purposes may offer interesting opportunities for additional solar power generation. At the same time, alpine environments create specific technical requirements regarding structural design, materials, anchoring, weather resilience and long-term system performance.
This makes technology selection and project-specific engineering particularly important.
Our approach at SolOcean is therefore not to simply transfer standard photovoltaic concepts onto water. Instead, we develop and configure Floating PV solutions around the specific technical and environmental requirements of each site.
Turning Technology into Projects
The progress made over recent months reflects SolOcean’s continued development: from technology and product development towards a broader portfolio, international supplier partnerships and increasingly concrete project opportunities.
The strong response at Intersolar Europe, the expansion of our PV module portfolio and the growing interest in our Cube System are not isolated developments. Together, they are creating the foundation for making Floating PV technically and commercially accessible across a wider range of applications.
Our next objective is clear: to turn market interest into projects.
With flexible Floating PV systems for freshwater and saltwater applications, an expanded PV module portfolio and a growing network of partners, SolOcean is working with project developers, energy companies, industrial operators and infrastructure providers to unlock new opportunities for solar power generation on water.
